Approach to Paediatric Shock
A structured bedside approach to recognizing and stabilizing shock in children.
Early recognition is the decisive step. Assess mental state, peripheral perfusion, pulse quality, capillary refill, urine output and blood pressure together—not in isolation.\n\nBegin with airway and breathing, obtain vascular access, check glucose, and give carefully reassessed fluid boluses where indicated. Choose vasoactive support according to physiology and local protocol. Re-evaluate after every intervention.
